Quarterfinal action at the 2026 Cincinnati Open began on Center Court on Thursday with an all-American matchup. World #3 Jessica Pegula looked to make her 2nd semifinals appearance in 3 years, while across the net, Amanda Anisimova was enjoying her career best tournament in the Queen City.
The 1st set saw Pegula striking first. In the 3rd game Anisimova fended off 4 break points before Pegula broke through. The rest of the set went relatively quickly with neither player coming close to a break. Pegula took the 1stset.
The 2nd set is where things got dicey. Pegula took an early medical timeout for an undisclosed injury. She quickly found herself down 0-4 before she could regain her footing, but it would be short lived, as after claiming 2 games, Anisimova would finish off the set by breaking Pegula.
The match would move onto a 3rd and deciding set.
Pegula opened the 3rd with 2 quick breaks before Anisimova would break back. Both players would hold serve, until Anisimova would get another break making the score 5-5. Neither player would get the needed break to win the set, and would have to play a tiebreak.
The players would trade points to start the tiebreak. Anisimova, though, would enjoy her last lead at 4-3. Pegula would win the next 4 points, and claim the match.
Jessica Pegula defeats Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(4).
It's on to the semifinals for Pegula, where she will face defending champion Iga Swiatek.
