A report came out this morning saying the Denver Broncos were 'aggressively pursuing' a trade for A.J. McCarron.
I've been on record saying the Bengals should consider trading McCarron, but only if the price is right. It doesn't take long to realize why the Bengals should have a steep asking price for their backup quarterback.
Less than two weeks ago, Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill injured his knee. It could be a season-ending injury. The Dolphins didn't make backup quarterback Matt Moore the starter. Instead, they brought in Jay Cutler who announced his retirement a few months ago. The Dolphins told us how they felt about Moore. They don't trust him.
The Bengals wouldn't be in that situation if Andy Dalton went down with an injury. They trust McCarron. They believe in him. Why would they trade him away for a third round pick like some have fans have said they should do?
This offense has the potential to be one of the NFL's best in 2017. Having a backup like McCarron could keep them afloat if Dalton were to go down with an injury.
Of course the Bengals will listen if a team comes calling, but they're not going to give him away.
