This date 2004: Dunn hits GABP record 535-foot HR

August 10, 2004/GABP

Adam Dunn hit the longest home run in Great American Ball Park history.

It is believed the ball bounced off Mehring Way and onto a piece of driftwood in the Ohio River.

The blast came off of Dodgers pitcher Jose Lima.

The ball was retrieved by a Reds electrician named Tom Tuerck. Tuerck gave the ball to Dunn, who in turn donated it to the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum.

The homer was measured at 535-feet.

ESPN.com:

Over the fence in center field, 404 feet from home plate. Over the 20-foot patch of grass behind that fence. Over the 32-foot-high hitter's eye at the back edge of that grass. Then over yet another wall that separates Great American Ball Park from the rest of the world.

According to an HOK architect who helped design the park, it landed on a street named Mehring Way, a ridiculous 535 feet from home plate.

Then it hopped along for another 200 feet or so and came to rest on a piece of driftwood on the banks of the Ohio River.

Enquirer: "You just go, 'Wow!' " Reds shortstop Barry Larkin said. "I've seen Wily Mo do it in batting practice. I didn't think I'd ever see it in a game. That goes to show you what kind of power (Dunn) has."
