Bearcats mash way to American title, 1st NCAA tourney since 1974

The Bearcats captured their first ever American Athletic Conference championship and clinched a trip to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1974.

UC pounded the Huskies for 24 hits and four homers, including a 5 for 5 day for Jace Mercer that included a grand slam. Seven Bearcats had at least two hits.

UC had multiple scoring innings of 5 (3rd), 3 (4th), 9 (7th) and 3 in (9th).

Scott Googins' Bearcats were the preseason pick to finish last in the American.
