Reds take series from Cubs, break Sunday hex!

Reds 10 Cubs 2

Don't look now but the Reds bats are coming to life. Sunday afternoon at Wrigley, the Reds pounded out 17 hits and 10 runs in beating the Cubs 10-2.

The Reds take 2 of 3 from the first place Cubs and end the Sunday hex that had seen them lose their first eight Sunday games of the season.

That's back-to-back series wins over the Cubs, the only series the Cubs have lost in their last 14.

The Reds collected 42 hits in the three-game series, their most hits in a three-game series at Wrigley since 1976 (FS Ohio).

Seven different Reds collected at least two hits: Nick Senzel (3), Joey Votto, Eugenio Suarez, Yasiel Puig, Jesse Winker, Jose Iglesias and Curt Casali.

Casali hit a two-run homer off Cubs catcher Victor Caratini in the 9th inning.

Tanner Roark: 5 IN, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K. 102 pitches.

The Reds jumped on Cubs SP Jose Quintana for four straight hits to open the game in a two run 1st inning and knocked him out with a four run 6th inning.

Senzel reached base four times (3 H/BB) and scored four runs.

He picked up his first ML outfield assist when he cut down a runner trying to score and also hustled his way into a double.

Next up: The Reds host the Pirates in a doubleheader on Monday.

The Reds stand 24-28 on the year and will make their ninth attempt (0-8) to pull within three games of .500 for the first time since April 29.
