Opening thoughts: Bengals 24 Steelers 10

It was a box checking win: The Bengals beat a division rival on the road while protecting Joe Burrow, harassing Ben Roethlisberger and making things happen defensively. It was 7-7 late in the half when the Bengals went on a 17-0 run, double-dipping with TD to end half and FG to start second half. They finished a game they led in the 4th quarter. The Bengals had been 6-5-1 when leading going to the 4th under Zac Taylor. The Bengals ran 42 plays to the Steelers 77. That's back-to-back wins over the Steelers and their first in Pittsburgh since 2015. The Heinz Field crowd booed the Steelers throughout the game.

It was a satisfying Sunday.

Offense

0 sacks of Joe Burrow/18 passes: Steelers had NFL record 75 straight games with sack. Yes, no TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith. 14 of 18, 172 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT, rating 122.9. Shook off forced 1st QT pick.

Burrow seemed to move better in getting out of the pocket on pressure and designed runs.

O had not topped 14 points in Pittsburgh in previous 14 games (2007)

Jackson Carman seemed to more than hold his own and had a superb seal on big run by Mixon.

Ja'Marr Chase 2 TDs.....34 and 7 yards. 4-65-TD. Long TD catches this year: 50, 42, 34.

This is becoming a big strike/long strike offense with the downfield threat of Chase and the leg of Evan McPherson.

Mixon: 18 rushes, 90 yards (5.0)....nice 27 yard run.

Picks to Points: Bengals scored TDs after both Logan Wilson INT.

Tyler Boyd TD....took/delivered a hit and bounced off for the score.

Mike Thomas big 19-yard catch late in half to keep drive alive that ended in TD.

Chris Evans couple nice catch and runs...including a 3rd and 3 crosser that was wiped out by hold.

Not sure why Zac went empty and was throwing up 17 with 8:03 left

TD drives: 3-75-:27 to end half......and 3-19-1:33 in 3rd QT....both capped by Burrow to Chase TDs.

Riley Reiff limped off with ankle issue in 3rd, returned in 4th.

Felt like Bengals were landing body blows early on, then when ready to deliver an uppercut, the Steelers went on a 15 play-86-8:32 drive to tie 1:04 left half. But offense turned around and answered with 3 play/75 yard TD in :27 seconds.

Defense

Ben threw it 58 times and was sacked 4 times: BJ Hill (3)....night tenacity on an 7-8 Mississippi play, Sam Hubbard (3:50 left game), Trey Hendrickson, Cam Sample. That's 10 sacks on the season after just 17 last season.

Steelers 15 carries/45 yards. 3 games: Cook 20-61, Montgomery 20-61, Harris 14-40. RB Najee Harris 14 catches/102 yards.

D allowed 402 yards rushing in final regular game last season. They have allowed 235 yards in the first three games of this season.

Big day Logan Wilson: 14 tackles, 2 picks....one on an athletic dive and catch of tipped ball.....the other on a short distance bullett.

Sudden change: Immediately after Burrow pick in 1st QT, Hubbard smacked Ben/Wilson picked off pass.......O turned it into a TD.

Steelers ran 18 and 12 plays on back-to-back drives in 4th QT, sandwiched around a Bengals 3 & out, but netted just 3 points.

Awuzie left with groin late, Phillips replaced.

Special Teams

Evan McPherson 43 yard FG

Darius Phillips 14 yard return and a -7 yard return

Boswell missed a 34-yard FG after being perfect on 58 kicks in his career vs Bengals (35 FG/28 PAT)
