Things that popped into my head this week

I don't look forward to hearing from the fans that will take issue with the 'style and flair' that Elly De La Cruz plays with when he arrives.

I really enjoyed watching the NCAA lacrosse Final Four and national championship. I say it every year: I wish I'd been exposed to lacrosse as a kid. I think I would have really enjoyed it.

I find myself becoming a minimalist. I don't need 'stuff' as I get older. I want experiences. And I want to get rid of more and more stuff.

Of all the upgrades the Bengals have made with fan engagement, I don't know why they haven't created a Bengals fan tour/caravan. The Colts Caravan hit the Louisville Bats game last night. There was an autograph session with players, visits by Colts mascot “Blue,” and performances by Colts cheerleaders. Indy is 113 miles to Louisville. Cincinnati is 99 miles to Louisville.

I find it really interesting how much people that don't watch the NBA want everyone to know they don't watch the NBA.

FC Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano is 16 months removed from being drafted No. 2 overall out of IU. Think about that. He has seven clean sheets (shutouts) already this season and just keeps getting better.

This whole 'trading Jonathan India' debate is silly. This isn't negotiating world peace. It's finding playing time for guys in a sport driven my versatility, matchups and keeping players fresh. It will all work out.

Man, I miss 'This Week in Baseball' w/ Mel Allen.....and T.W.I.B notes. That was Saturday afternoon must-see TV as a kid. I was humming the theme as I was typing this.

Concessions prices at sporting events are what they are because enough people are willing to pay that price.

Ian Gibaut leads the Reds in wins (5-1). Only 8 pitchers in MLB have more wins. Still think W-L record is important?

New brewery alert! We are excited to get to Fabled Brew Works, opening this week in Erlanger. That will be our 56th brewery visited within 50 miles of home.

I was flipping channels and found The Poseidon Adventure last week, the 1972 disaster movie. What a cast: Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Albertson, Shelley Winters, Red Buttons, Pamela Sue Martin. I forgot that Leslie Nielsen was the captain! Remember that string of disaster films of the early through mid-1970s, Airport, Earthquake and Towering Inferno?

Silence is such a lost art by TV play-by-play announcers. It's OK not to talk constantly. The picture of what's happening is right there. It's OK to allow a game to breathe.

I used to do listener outings to Reds games (1160 BOB/1360/1530). The Reds gave us discounts on tickets. One time we had a group of over 200 listeners one night. Mr. Castellini came out to our section to thank our group for attending. He sent me a handwritten thank you note. I'll never forget that.

It's OK to enjoy something in the moment. You don't always have to jump ahead to something to worry about that may or may not even happen.

I like the fact that a soccer injury is called a 'knock' and not an injury. I may start using that for all sports.

"23" by Chayce Beckham is an excellent song. Can't wait to see him at VOA Country Music Fest in August.

Hey, I'll admit it. I was ticked the Reds included Jesse Winker in the Seattle trade in order to get the Mariners take the salary of Eugenio Suarez.
Winker is on the IL, batting .204 without a HR in 39 games this year.

Again: The national media likes to troll Bengals fans with silly/provoking comments because they know the fan base is so passionate and engaged, especially on social media. It leads to clicks, views, listens and discussions for those outlets. Meanwhile, they sit back and laugh.

We watched all seven episodes of Apple TV's “The Last Thing He Told Me" with Jennifer Garner. We had to go back and listen to the final, dramatic line... twice. And then had to google it to piece it together. Seriously?

During a game, have you ever tried to keep track of how many different players Reds fans want released during the game, let alone how many want David Bell fired?

I'm a big fan of how Erik Spoelstra leads, coaches and carries himself with the Miami Heat.

Don't worry about things you don't care about
