Columbus Blue Jackets

We had a fantastic time attending our first Columbus Blue Jackets game on Saturday.  We drove up on Saturday morning. There are plenty of places to eat and things to do within walking distance of Nationwide Arena. Casey and Peyton picked Sunny Street Cafe for lunch. We tried to get in Ted Montana Grill and Boston's, but each place had a 45 minute wait, at noon. Downtown Columbus was buzzing, with The Arnold's in town. We saw bodybuilders walking the streets, everywhere we turned.
Nationwide Arena is a cool place, with plenty of room to walk on the concourse.
There were marching bands playing, choirs singing, and games/activities for kids. The Blue Jackets also do a nice job with in-game and intermission activities and interactions with fans. When the Blue Jackets score three goals or more during a home game, fans can get a free bowl of chili at Bob Evans. Leo, who did the national anthem, was outstanding! The arena has great sightlines, a massive video board above the ice, and plenty of side video screens with game updates. I love the banners of all the NHL franchises that hang from the rafters.
Nationwide offers one of the largest varieties of food and beers I've ever seen at an arena. There is a auxiliary ice rink that had a youth hockey game going on.
The Blue Jackets beat the Florida Panthers 6-3. The place was rocking.  A cannon is fired after each Blue Jackets goal, they had six, including two empt net goals. Nationwide had to have the highest percentage of fans wearing the home team jersey that I've ever seen. You get a real sense that Columbus takes a lot of pride in that team. Cool place. Good time. We will be back!
