110 Passengers Forced Off Flight When Captain Announces Rat Jumped Onboard

While I love traveling, I’m not the biggest fan of flying. Airplane travel can be stressful, anxiety-inducing, and sometimes gross. And all that applies even without rodents involved!

One Alaska Airlines flight leaving Oakland, California and heading for Portland, Oregon, forced its 110 passengers to deplane after someone discovered that a live rat jumped onboard during loading.

I can’t imagine anything more horrific!

One passenger named Ginger Hintz, after getting off the flight, recalled, “Captain came out and said, ‘Hey, I know you’re not gonna believe me, but a rat just got on the plane and we’re gonna try to catch it.”

While most of the passengers were able to find same-day flights to their destination, a few had to wait and extra day.

Alaska Airlines released the following statement after the scurry friend got onboard: “The plane is currently out of service. It will be returned to operations once it’s certified rodent-free by a professional exterminator. The aircraft will also be thoroughly inspected to ensure no damage has been done.”

Glad to hear an inspection will be involved! It’s there’s anything I dislike more than flying, it’s rats! Here’s more rodent-free flying experiences.

Would you willingly have flown with the rat? Or do you think the airline made the right decision cancelling the flight?
