Kansas City Chiefs defensive end B.J. Thompson "is still unconscious," but in stable condition, his agent, hours after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting at the team's facility, his agent, Chris Turnage, revealed to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero in an update on Thursday (June 6) night.
“BJ is still unconscious at this point, but he’s stable and vitals are good. His family asks for your continued prayers," Turnage said, according to Pelissero.
Thompson, 25, who was selected by the Chiefs at No. 166 overall in the fifth-round of the 2023 NFL Draft and appeared in one game during his rookie season, is reported to be in stable condition after being quickly treated by the team's medical staff before an ambulance was called, according to Pelissero.
The former Stephen F. Austin State University standout wasn't initially named, but identified as "a backup defensive lineman," in the initial report of the medical incident, which resulted in practice being canceled. The Chiefs' Thursday media availability was re-scheduled for Friday (June 7).
The Chiefs are currently in Phase 3 of their voluntary offseason program with mandatory minicamp scheduled to start on June 11. Kansas City is less than four full months removed from winning its second consecutive Super Bowl and third in five years during a 25-22 overtime win against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
