120th edition of My Random Thoughts: Sports, TV, music, food, life.....
Growing up, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the USA Today Monday March Madness preview section. I would spread it out on the family room floor, grab a yellow highlighter, study the team capsules, and fill out my bracket.
Bryan Adams has new music! Roll With The Punches. I might have disregarded the WHJE format and played him once an hour during my Carmel high school days. Loved Summer of '69, Cuts Like A Knife, Everything I Do, Run To You....
The year 2000 seems recent, it was 25 years ago. The 90's feel like just a bit ago. They were 30+ years ago. How exactly are the 80's already 40+ years ago? I watched the Big Red Machine 50 years ago. What is happening?
I've been to Las Vegas for the first two days of the NCAA tournament one time. Talk about a game-changer. But it's so much fun that it almost ruins every other year you watch the games.
I'm an idea guy. I appreciate marketing. I understand MLB needs more fans. But Dodgers-Cubs opening the season in Japan at 6:10am eastern, playing two games, returning to spring training games, and then joining the rest of MLB in games next week.....is a stretch.
Still hard to believe my school (Butler), with an enrollment of 4,000 and playing in the Horizon League, made it to back-to-back national championship games in college basketball.
Song I cranked the car radio to this week: "In The City" by the Eagles. What a sound. My goodness.
Congrats to my dad. At the age of 83, he recorded his 2nd career hole in one this week. St. James Plantation/Irwin Course. 110-yard, par-3 3rd hole with a 7 hybrid. His two aces have come about a year apart. Go figure.
I'm a one NCAA bracket guy. I've always been a one bracket guy. The pick is the pick.
I enjoy spotting actors in old TV shows I watch. This week, I noticed William Christopher as a doctor in a colorized version of The Andy Griffith Show. That was six years prior to his role of Father Mulcahy on M*A*S*H.
I would not be entirely shocked if Alexis Diaz starts the year at Louisville, in an attempt to get him into a groove.
Jason Benetti is so damn good at play-by-play......of everything.
Some of the host sites for NCAA tournament games are: Providence, Wichita, Dayton, Newark, Lexington, Milwaukee, Seattle and Indianapolis. Pretty embarrassing that Cincinnati can't get it's &^% together to build an arena capable of hosting.
I had a dream last night that I was duped into getting former MLB pitcher Jim Kaat into a research facility to plant a dirty bomb. Explain that one.
I understand how to execute a roundabout. But I always fear the oncoming driver does not.
I came across Field of Dreams the other night. That's a movie that gets better every time I watch it. So much nuance, depth and emotional pull to it.
Sometimes it seems like people feel required to balance out my positive comments here with a negative comment. Please feel no such obligation.
I always thought it would be cool to have Marty & Joe statues sitting at a broadcast table inside GABP. There would be an open seat between them for people to slide in for a photo, and a loop of their greatest hits playing on speakers.
Remember OJ Mayo, Bill Walker and North College Hill and the spotlight and attention that road show got?
I don't understand why people pay attention to what Stephen A. Smith has to say. What's the appeal?
A lot of first round NCAA tournament games run together over the years. But I'll never forget Cleveland State, led by Kevin Mackey and Mouse McFadden, stunning Indiana in 1986.
A Ted Lasso Season Four? Yes! Jason Sudeikis told the New Heights podcast the show will revolve around him coaching a women's team.
Don't worry about things you don't care about.
