Reds: Well, blankety, blank! Another shutout in 1-0 win

Reds 1 Giants 0

Well, blankety, blank!

Nick Lodolo tossed six strong innings, and two Reds relievers made Jose Trevino’s 3rd inning RBI groundout stand up in a 1-0 win. That’s back to back shutouts of the Giants.

The Reds have won back to back games for the first time this season, secured their first series of the season and moved to 5-7 on the season. The Giants entered the series as the hottest team in baseball, winners of seven straight.

Lodolo: 6 IN, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 87 pitches/56 strikes. ERA 0.96. He walked the leadoff batter of the game, his first and only walk in three starts.

Dealing: The Reds rotation ERA of 2.57 is best in MLB.

Offense: 6 H, 1 BB, 6 K
Spencer Steer: 2 2B, rounding into form with more ABs.
Jake Fraley: 2 H. He made a heck of a running/leaping/sliding catch of a 5th inning liner to strand the tying run on base.
Gavin Lux: 2 H, 2B, started at 2B.

Bullpen:
7th-8th: Graham Ashcraft
9th: Emilio Pagan

How they scored:
3rd Trevino RBI groundout, 1-0 Reds

Execution: The Reds blew a 5th inning scoring chance. With runners on corners and one out, Steer was out at home on a Trevino squeeze bunt.

Goose Eggs: The Reds are the first team to play four 1-0 games in an eight-game span since the 1992 Cardinals went 3-1 (Per Elias). The Reds are 1-3.

Record seeking: Nick Martinez is on the mound as the Reds go for a sweep and a franchise record tying 3rd straight shutout (1908, 1962, 1963).

New guys: Will Benson and Noelvi Marte did not see action. I’d think both get starts today, after not playing Monday and sitting Tuesday.
