129th edition of My Random Thoughts: Sports, TV, music, food, life.....
We are headed to Indy on Saturday to check out Caitlin Clark and Indy Fever for the first time. Originally, it was going to be me and Kelly. Then Peyton said, 'I wanna go!" and then Casey added "I'll go!" Road trip!
Last night, I mentioned a local 9-year old Reds/Elly fan that recently had a tumor removed that was pressing on his brain. Within hours, the Reds/Reds Community Fund reached out and invited him to attend a game and watch batting practice next month. The family was in tears. I had tears reading the email.
I was pretending to play instruments while walking/listening to 'Ain't No Love' by Luke Combs this week. Then I noticed drivers laughing at me.
I will watch the Indy 500. It's tradition. I spent many Saturdays at The Brickyard in the early 80's, filling out my IndyStar newspaper qualifying grid, and waiting to hear Tom Carnegie declare "It's a neeeeeeeeew track record."
Peyton was sick last week. She texted us from her apartment in Louisville: "anyone feel like sponsoring a GrubHub meal for a sick child?" I was impressed by her creativity. I loved the fact she does in fact still need us!
The NFL will present a yearly Protector of the Year award to the top offensive lineman. Why wouldn't they call it the Anthony Muzo Protector of the Year? The winner gets The Munoz. Do I have to market for the NFL, as well?
I was reminded this week that 'The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby & The Range is just masterful. That piano!
When I walk my neighborhood, I pass a home built in 1847 that is being restored. It's a fascinating project.
Anyone else have wiffle ball marks all over the aluminum siding of their house growing up?
The Bengals have a better chance to win the Super Bowl this year with Trey Hendrickson than without him. What's more important to the Bengals: Winning a Super Bowl or winning a negotiation?
There's an odd/unexplainable resentment I feel a number of Reds fans have towards Elly.
I ate lunch at Cheers in the mid 80's, when I flew into Boston to see the Celtics and Pistons play.
Rocky III was on last night. We watched the final 15 minutes!
OK, that Pop-Tart Strawberry Fusion Frosty from Wendy's looks incredible.
I stumbled into watching Freddie Mercury: The Final Act (2021). A fabulous behind-the-scenes look at the 1992 tribute concert after the passing of Freddie Mercury. Interviews. 72,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. David Bowie and Annie Lennox sing Under Pressure. Elton John and Axl Rose sing Bohemian Rhapsody. Absolutely amazing.
If you notice a line of grass you missed the day after mowing, do you get the mower back out and finish, or, leave it alone?
I'll never forget something a friend told me when Casey was first hospitalized in 2003: "You never want your child to be in the hospital, but if they have to be there is no better place than Cincinnati Children's Hospital. So true.
I wish we had our old minivan for our family trip to Indy this weekend. And the goldfish crackers, juice cups, wipes and other stuff that filled our minivan.
Ever try sliding across the hood of your car like Luke Duke (Dukes of Hazzard), or bouncing off the roof like Hutch (Starsky & Hutch)?
I shopped at an Aldi for the first time this week. It was kind of exciting.
My favorite Indiana Pacer was Special K. Clark Kellogg!
I heard a 21 year old song for the first time this week, and loved it: Over and Over, Nelly with Tim McGraw.
"That's Incredible!" Fran Tarkenton, John Davidson and Cathy Lee Crosby! Remember?
Is it weird that I occasionally stop on a walk and will assist a worm stranded on the sidewalk in getting back to the grass?
Don't worry about things you don't care about
