One for the dogs as Marlins rain on Reds parade

Marlins 5 Reds 1

Not exactly the way to start a big homestand.

The Reds (46-45) offense was once again absent, and the defense was once again a circus act.

I'm tired of hearing about the fight, and energy, and grit of this team. You know what this team needs? More talent.

They were no-hit to the 5th. They collected three hits, after one on Sunday.

They had more errors (2) than runs scored (1).

That's one run scored in each of their last three games, and 1 or 0 runs scored for the 22nd time this season.

The Reds have lost 5 of 7. Marlins have won 10 straight road games.

The Reds led 1-0 in the 2nd, but the Marlins scored twice in the 5th and the 6th.

Defense:
Benson's poor throw to plate from 184 feet allowed the go-ahead run.
Circus: w/ runner on 3rd in the 6th, Marte threw a grounder over the head of Stephenson. Richardson picked up the ricochet and threw wildly into center field.

Offense: 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K. No-hit until Steer leadoff 1B in 5th.
10 ground outs, 3 pop ups.
Their lone run came w/o benefit of a hit. Hays, BB, WP, PB, sac fly in 2nd.
Marte: 1st hit off the IL
Elly: H
McLain: 0 for last 18..pop up to SS and 1B (.203).
Stephenson: RBI. Entered w/ 1 RBI last 13 games.
Friedl: 0 for 4 ...7 for last 40 (.277)

How they scored:
2nd Stephenson sac fly, 1-0 Reds

Singer: 5 IN, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 96 pitches. Got hit hard in 2-R 5th.

Bullpen: 4 more innings needed.
Richardson 1 IN, 2 R/1 ER. 9th appearance last 19 days.
Suter 2.0, HR.
Rogers 1.0

Rain delayed the start of the agony by one hour and seven minutes.

Reds had been 18-11 in series opening games.
