While meeting with beat writers yesterday, Phil Castellini said: "my coming here today is about showing we are 100% behind these guys (Nick Krall/Brad Meador) on taking this team to the next level and solving the challenges that we have to do that and sticking with our strategy."
Short answer: Stick with the plan…..
Phil added: “I think this group has the capability to deliver what they (fans) deserve, and we want to continue until we do."
Capability? Based on whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
Oh, and Nick and Brad are currently doing an audit of the organization.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the very definition of insanity.
For 13 straight years, the Reds have failed to win more than 83 games.
For 14 straight years, they’ve finished no better than 3rd place.
For 21 years, they have not only failed to deliver on their promise to fans……they haven’t come close.
Since 2006, the Reds are 156 games under .500.
Their .476 winning percentage is 7th-worst in MLB.
They haven't won a postseason series since 1995.
That 31-year drought is the longest in baseball.
Hell, they’ve never won a postseason game GABP.
If ever a situation demanded change, new ways, ideas, eyeballs, leadership, vision…….
“We hear the fans loud and clear,” Castellini said. “The outcomes of this particular season are not good enough.”
You do? ...........They aren’t?
Yet the architect of a rebuild that landed the Reds in last place and 26 games out, four years later is returning? The same genius that wasted the seasons for Elly, Sal and Chase, surrounding them with a Triple-A squad?
But have no fear, Krall added this gem yesterday: They need to be better at adding mid-tier veteran free agents.
Well, hurry and put that on a billboard for my drive home:
"Reds baseball 2027: Better at identifying veteran mid-tier free agents.”
I get chills.
But remember, accountability isn’t required when what’s happening is deemed acceptable.
However, they did move on from the assistant hitting coach.
Yesterday, Phil told the beat writers: “We need baseball guys to make baseball decisions.”
Great. Hire some. Get out of the way.
And audit this.
