Nick Senzel’s right index finger has given the Reds a reprieve.

Not that the season-ending injury suffered by the franchise’s top prospect on Friday isn’t among the worst possible developments in a season that’s already had too many of them, but it puts an end to the questions about when Senzel will be promoted to the big club in 2018, and ultimately, where he’ll play.

Those questions have gotten louder and they’ve been asked with more urgency lately, as Senzel rebounded in Louisville from a bout with vertigo to put up killer numbers in recent weeks. Yet for as good he’s been and for as much hype as he’s generating, it’s felt like the Reds have no idea what to do with him. It even feels like they’re kind of making up their plan for Senzel as they go along.
