Barry Massa serves as the Executive Director for LifeCenter Organ Donor Network (LifeCenter). His career with LifeCenter began in 2004 as Chief Financial Officer for both LifeCenter and its affiliated tissue bank, U.S. Tissue and Cell. When the University of Cincinnati Department of Surgery sold U.S. Tissue and Cell to Allosource in 2006, Barry joined the University of Cincinnati Department of Surgery as its Assistant Director of Business Affairs, while keeping his role as CFO for LifeCenter. In June 2008, Barry was named Executive Director of LifeCenter. Since taking on the leadership of LifeCenter, Barry has lead several strategic initiatives, some of which are:
·Changing the organization from a subsidiary of the University of Cincinnati Department of Surgery to an independent OPO in March 2010.
·Improving the relationships with donation partners, such as transplant centers and transplant surgeons, as well as other constituents, i.e. the county coroners, tissue processors, National Kidney Foundation, and its volunteers.
·Moved the organization to a new facility, with in-house tissue recovery suites.
·Formed an administrative services organization with the OPO in Columbus (Lifeline of Ohio) to share services and for group purchasing initiatives. This has resulted in significant cost-savings to both organizations.
Most importantly, more lives have been saved through organ, tissue, and eye donation during Barry’s tenure than at any time in LifeCenter’s history. With the last 5 years achieving nearly year-over-year all-time highs.
Barry has nearly 25 years of healthcare experience, having worked previously as CFO for one of the largest primary care groups in Cincinnati. Prior to his healthcare experience, Barry worked eight years in the banking industry with Bank One (now Chase).
Barry serves on the Board of Directors for the National Kidney Foundation, Greater Cincinnati division and the Hoxworth Blood Center Community Advisory Board. Barry was recognized as the Non-Profit CEO of the Year in 2018 by the Cincinnati Business Courier.
Barry has both his undergraduate degree and MBA from Xavier University of Cincinnati, Ohio. He and his wife of 32 years, Diane have three adult daughters and two granddaughters.
